We are seeking a talented team member to help us develop mechanical and electromechanical systems. As an intern you will be working with teams of passionate engineers and scientists who design, analyze, and test systems for all of APLs Mission Areas. Our team strives to deliver robust mechanical solutions to APLs most difficult problems. Our team values leadership and communication skills and we cultivate an environment of collaboration.

 

As a member of our team...

  • Your primary responsibility will include combination of the computer-aided design, analysis, assembly and test & evaluate of mechanical, mechatronic, robotic, or electromechanical systems.
  • You will work with and actively collaborate with engineers, designers, fabricators, and scientists on a daily basis.
  • You will generate the files and documentation necessary to facilitate the fabrication of your designs.
  • Depending on what you create, you will 3D print your models or initiate the fabrication of You will also communicate with the machinist responsible for creating your part, using the model you created.
  • You will order the necessary hardware to assemble your designs, plus perform the assembly and testing yourself.
  • You will give presentations to communicate results to team members.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Are pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related field.
  • Have a passion for CAD and practical experience using CAD software, possibly in support of class projects, graduate research, or during a prior internship
  • Are able to obtain an interim Secret security clearance prior to reporting and ultimately acquire a full Secret clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

 

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you…

  • Are pursuing dual degrees or equivalent experience in in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical or Computer Engineering or field.
  • Have CAD experience in either SolidWorks or Creo Parametric.
  • Are experienced or interested in performing finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Have previously dynamic systems controls experience and mechanism design.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development. $21.90 Hourly

Maximum Rate

$46.45 Hourly
