This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at Hillcrest and La Jolla and remote.

UC San Diego Health seeks a visionary and experienced Perinatal Operational Excellence Coach to support high-acuity obstetrical clinical teams by expanding leadership capabilities through enhanced support, mentoring, and interdisciplinary alignment. This role focuses on developing new managers, retaining nurse leaders, and promoting their well-being while fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence. The Perinatal Operational Excellence Coach will champion recognition programs, lead efforts to enhance leadership resilience, and mentor teams in implementing complex processes across dynamic obstetrical units.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership Development: Serve as a coach and mentor for new and experienced managers of high-acuity obstetrical clinical teams, guiding them through leadership transitions and building their management confidence and effectiveness.
- Retention & Well-Being: Develop and implement initiatives focused on retaining nurse leaders by promoting resilience, professional satisfaction, and well-being.
- Recognition & Engagement: Design recognition programs to celebrate team achievements, foster alignment, and drive a positive work culture.
- Strategic Mentorship: Provide mentorship for the implementation of complex processes across dynamic obstetrical units, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Change Management & Process Improvement: Lead strategic planning efforts, quality improvement projects, and workflow optimization initiatives to enhance clinical outcomes and team efficiency.
- Interdisciplinary Alignment: Foster collaboration among multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless communication, shared goals, and patient-centered care.
- Professional Development: Deliver innovative educational programs to strengthen leadership capabilities and advance evidence-based nursing practices.
- Health Equity: Actively support initiatives addressing health equity, diversity, and inclusion within obstetrical units.
- Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN).
- Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of California.
- BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to obtain BART within six (6) months of hire.
- Experience working in an academic medical center or Magnet-designated hospital.
- Current certification in advanced fetal monitoring and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
- At least five (5+) years of direct clinical care experience in high-risk obstetrical nursing.
- At least four (4+) years of experience leading obstetrical nursing leadership teams.
- Experience leading large (over 250 FTEs), interprofessional clinical teams within a collaborative decision-making model.
- Experience mentoring obstetrical nursing leaders on topics including change management, conflict resolution, professional development, staffing allocation, supply management, capital investments, budgetary oversight, variance analysis, and human resource management.
- Experience presenting at professional meetings and effectively communicating in online platforms and in-person formats.
- Experience developing reports within various data sources including Epic, Tableau, and Slicer Dicer to identify and measure process improvements.
- Proven success in leading and mentoring new managers in obstetrical nursing teams.
- Expertise in retention strategies for nurse leaders, with a focus on well-being and professional growth.Demonstrated ability to design and implement recognition programs that promote engagement and alignment.
- Lean Six Sigma certification.
- Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN).
- Specialty certification within obstetrics, leadership, and/or other perinatal specialty.
- Evidence of training in health equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $128,800 - $252,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $61.69 - $120.79
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
