Position Summary

The Accountant position is responsible for performing routine and complex accounting and analytical work requiring professional knowledge of the theory and practice of recording, classifying, examining, analyzing accounting records and financial transactions, and generating and monitoring financial reports. The Accountant reports to the Grants Accounting Manager.

Job Duty Name Reconciliations

 

Description of Job Duties

  • Post daily banking activity to the general ledger for cash accounts for the university.
  • Import large volumes of cash receipts from athletics 3rd party ticketing platform; analyze data for corresponding reconciliation and journal entry adjustments. Communicate with Athletics Business Manager to resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain and reconcile monthly reports, statements, and other records of financial transactions.
  • Reconcile monthly bank accounts and general ledger balance sheet accounts and other departmental accounts for quarterly close and year end audit.

Description of Job Duties

  • Analyze general ledger accounts; prepare, review and post journal entries, budget adjustments and transfers.
  • Monitor budgets for any necessary budget adjustments or corresponding transfers to balance budgets.
  • Provide supporting documentation to managers and senior staff when necessary.
  • Prepare work papers and year end audit schedules.
  • Perform accounting duties for gift, scholarship and endowment accounts.
  • Perform quarterly and year end closing entries.

Description of Job Duties

  • Assist with reviewing and monitoring restricted/grants budgets to ensure compliance with grant guidelines and university spending policies.
  • Assist with financial reporting and invoicing external agencies for reimbursement of grant or restricted expenditures.
  • Assist with providing any accounting data to the department of athletics for athletics reporting.
  • Assist with monthly mailouts of monthly budgets to departmental personnel; respond to any inquiries related to their budgets.
  • Set up chart of account codes for new awards, gift, scholarships, etc.
  • Assist with university surveys: IPEDSFISAPNSF, etc.

Qualifications

 

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of accounting.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications, databases, spreadsheets, and/or word processing.
  • Strong skills in operating a calculator and/or a ten key adding machine.
  • Ability to effectively analyze and evaluate accounting problems.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively apply accounting principles and practices to non-profit accounting.
  • Ability to effectively interpret and analyze financial documents and reports.
  • Ability to effectively prepare a variety of financial statements, reports, and analyses.
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and use rational judgment in making work-related decisions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, management, community, and general public.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education
Bachelors Degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university.
Required Work Experience
Two (2) years of accounting experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of accounting experience.
  • Master of Business Administration.
  • Non-profit accounting experience.
