Passaic County Community College (PCCC) is seeking an Educational Opportunity Fund Student Retention Specialist that will report directly to the Assistant Dean of EOF or a designee and is responsible for academic and financial aid advisement for all designated EOF students. The Educational Opportunity Fund Student Retention Specialist will also design and implement retention initiatives for EOF students and monitor student compliance and program qualification status. All duties will be preformed in accordance with the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education (OSHE), the EOF regulations, and the college policy.
This is a full-time, administrative position.
Example of Duties:
The Education Opportunity Fund Student Retention Specialist will:
- Assist with the recruitment of EOF students.
- Advise EOF students on the selection of courses and academic programs.
- Advise individuals and groups of students related to career/life planning, transfer, and financial aid.
- Provide students with information regarding referral sources to assist them with personal situations that are beyond the scope of EOF services.
- Maintain student records including, but not limited to, advising contacts, notes, workshop attendance, transfer forms, graduation checklists, and funding request forms.
- Plan and implement approved activities and workshops to promote student academic achievement and personal growth.
- Monitor student academic progress.
- Serve on college-wide and Academic Council committees to articulate the needs of EOF students and advocate on their behalf.
- Serve on the EOF Program Advisory Board, if requested.
- Design and implement initiatives aimed at retaining students with diverse needs (e.g., academic progress monitoring, support for students with disabilities, LGBT+ identities, and in the Men of Color Success Initiative)
- Monitor the ever-changing compliance status of students.
- Perform related duties as assigned by the EOF Assistant Dean or a designee.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Prior experience working on special projects for disadvantaged students.
- Knowledge of computer software (e.g., the Microsoft suite: Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- Ability to work with educationally underprepared multicultural students in person and remotely.
- Ability to professionally communicate with students, staff, and other college and community stakeholders.
